Siapa yang tak kenal lagu legendaris yang dipopulerkan oleh penyanyi sekaligus aktor ternama Francis Albert Sinatra (1915-1998). Lagu yang dirilis pada saat ulang tahunnya ke-65 , telah dinyanyikan ulang oleh banyak artis dan grup musik ternama, sebut saja Elvis Presley, Robbie Willams, U2 dan Cristian Slater.  Ahmad Dhani pun telah menyanyikan ulang lagu ini untuk band besutannya The Rock.

Walaupun terkesan jadul atau kuno, secara pribadi saya sangat suka lagu ini karena mengandung makna yang dalam pada setiap liriknya. My Way menuturkan tentang perjalanan seorang pria yang penuh dengan lika-liku hidup. Dalam lagu ini ternyata Frank Sinatra bercerita tentang perjalanan hidupnya yang dia jalani  dengan penuh lika-liku. Dengan “My Way” Frank melihat kembali ke belakang pada perjalanan hidup dan karirnya, dan menyampaikan kepada audiens tentang apa yang telah dia lakukan semasa hidup: “Ive lived a life that’s full I’ve Travelled each and ev’ry highway; And more, much more than this, I did it my way”.

Frank tidak hanya bercerita tentang kisah jayanya saja, kisah kelamnya pun diceritakan dalam lagu ini: ”Yes, there were times, I’m sure you knew; When I bit off more than I could chew; But through it all when there was doubt, I ate it all and spit it out; I faced it all and I stood tall; And did it may way.

Namun sebagai seorang laki-laki sejati, tampaknya Frank tidak ingin menyesali apa yang telah terjadi di dalam hidupnya: Regrets, I’ve had a few; But then again, too few to mention; I did what I had to do and saw it through without exemption.

Dan sampai di akhir hayatnya Frank tetap tegar dengan segala terpaan dalam hidupnya tetapi yang terpenting adalah dia telah melakukan semuanya dengan caranya sendiri dan Frank berhasil membuktikannya: For what is a man, what has he got?; If not himself, then he has naught; To say the things he truly feels and not the words of one who kneels; The record shows I took the blows and did it my way!

Jadi hidup adalah pembelajaran dan kegagalan adalah bagian dari pembelajaran itu bukan begitu Opa Frank?
